Celebrating the opening of our new Water Innovation Hub

It was with a great sense of achievement on Wednesday night that we celebrated the opening of our new Water Innovation Hub.
A special thanks to our speakers: Te Radar for guiding the evening as our Humorous MC, William Hatton from Boffa Miskell, Scott Palmer for connecting us to the whenua, Kayla Adlam for leading our waiata, and our own GM Philip Kingston and Director Andrew Olsen for sharing the Watersmart journey.
With over 100 guests incorporating clients, suppliers, and key business partners, we celebrated the months of hard work that have gone in to opening this centre, which showcases our water solutions working in real-time.
Our vision for the Hub was not just to have static products on display, but to enable people to see first-hand how we are using our own products to save money on water by collecting it, recycling it, and measuring it.
In fact, as soon as our guests walked into the courtyard last night, one of the first things they would have seen are the range of tanks we are using to harvest our own rainwater. Once collected, the water is treated for potable consumption through our WaterSAFE endpoint water treatment system. We are then able to measure how much water we are saving, through a measurement and monitoring solution called Flowgen.
People were also quick to notice our Porous Lane patio beautifully designed by the team from Boffa Miskell. Made from 60% recycled tyres, it is both aesthetically pleasing and a more sustainable option to traditional asphalt and concrete. The combination of materials used enables water to absorb through the surface, therefore reducing the chance of flooding.
Meanwhile, inside, there was a lot of interest in how our Hydraloop system recycles our shower, handbasin, and washing machine water. Once it is hygienically cleaned through the unit, the water is used for flushing toilets and cleaning more clothes.
Suffice to say, we were delighted by the response to the Hub and the many questions asked during the evening. A very big thank you to all those who attended and helped us mark this significant event.
If you were unable to make the opening, particularly those based outside of Auckland, we welcome you to visit at another time to see it for yourself. Simply contact your Account Manager or email hello@watersmart.co.nz to arrange a time.
We will also be holding a series of events at the Hub next year so keep an eye out in your inbox over the coming months!
