Overview

Watersmart is proud to announce the successful installation of New Zealand’s first Porous Lane footpath, completed at the Jack’s Landing subdivision for Golden Homes Hamilton

In partnership with Siteworks Limited, our trusted installation partner based in Avondale, Watersmart delivered 207m² of Porous Lane permeable pavement — an innovative product developed by the University of Melbourne and introduced to New Zealand by Watersmart in May 2025.

Unlike traditional concrete, Porous Lane allows water to soak directly into the ground, easing pressure on stormwater networks and supporting healthier urban environments. Each project also contributes to sustainability by recycling thousands of waste tyres that would otherwise end up in landfill.

To ensure a quality finish at Jack’s Landing, a small test patch was first installed to optimise the mixing process. From there, the full pathway was successfully completed, marking a major milestone for Golden Homes, Siteworks, and Watersmart in bringing this innovation to New Zealand.

“This installation proves that Porous Lane is not only practical and durable, but also a powerful way to deliver sustainable infrastructure,” says Klaudia Matyjas, Watersmart Business Development Manager. “Since introducing the product in May, we’ve been refining supply chain processes to ensure it can be delivered efficiently across the country.”

The success at Jack’s Landing is just the beginning. With developers and councils looking for greener alternatives, Porous Lane offers a future-ready solution that combines performance, resilience, and sustainability.
